About
About our foodbank
At Ely Foodbank we want no one in our region to experience food poverty or its underlying causes. So we make it our business to help people at the time of crises, and provide help to move forward.
Our operations focus on three key aspects:
-
Providing emergency food to those in crisis.
-
Signposting effectively to other supportive services.
-
Directly helping people find long-term solutions to their issues.
Ely Foodbank was launched in 2012 by the local churches working in partnership with a diverse range of organisations and members of the public across the city.
It grew rapidly, adding distribution centres in neighbouring towns of March, Chatteris and Soham. Recognising that for people in crises transport can be an issue, other centres were also added: Cottenham, Haddenham and Waterbeach.
Motivated by Christian values and a concern for those in need we continue to operate in partnership with over 100 different organisations and well over 100 dedicated volunteers across the region. Although the scale of the Foodbank can seem large, each individual person who comes to us in crises is important to us, because we believe they are important to God. It is our privilege to try to help, without judging or pre-condition.
