Amongst the current hardship, and expected economic difficulties of the future, there is one thing the government can do to stop many many people sliding into poverty: make the current £20 per week Universal Credit uplift permanent. The trustees of Ely Foodbank are writing to our region’s members of parliament, as well as the chancellor of the exchequer and the prime minister himself to make this point, and urge them to factor it into the upcoming budget.
